Decked Out for Success: Our SuperDecks Optimize Vanderbilt Hospital Project

DOWNLOAD CASE STUDY

Preston Rentals recently collaborated with Robins & Morton on the Vanderbilt Hospital Tower project in downtown Nashville, TN. This 17-story, 470,000-square-foot tower will significantly expand Vanderbilt Hospital’s capacity, adding 180 adult inpatient beds, operating rooms, clinics, and office space.

THE CHALLENGE

Robins & Morton were looking for a material handling strategy that could mitigate the space constraints and logistical challenges of the work site. They needed to load an assortment of construction materials into the building, including stacked lumber, conduit, bundles of pipe, scissor-lifts, forklifts, door frames, and prefab plumbing units. As there was limited space on site, Robins & Morton was also looking for a method that would free up loading zones.

OUR SOLUTION

The Preston Rentals team knew that eight of our 4.2 SuperDecks was the perfect solution for the task. At 13’9” in width and with individual capacities of 11,000 lbs., our decks easily freed up the loading/offloading lane, minimizing the time needed to transfer materials into the building. The ability to stack our decks, one on top of the other, required little crane time as there was no need to drop loads in multiple areas. Able to be rolled in and out, our SuperDecks also provided a solution to the overhang issues faced in certain areas. Overall, the flexibility of our SuperDeck® system enabled the project team to optimize space utilization and improve overall site efficiency.

THE RESULT

Robins & Morton was delighted with the performance and convenience of our SuperDecks and there are plans to add four more 4.2 SuperDecks in the coming months.

We look forward to continuing to provide efficient and effective material handling solutions for Robins & Morton in the future.
